End It Now, Marbury Won’t Be A Cancer

Stephon Marbury Checklist:

  • He’s a cancer.
  • He only plays for himself.
  • He can’t play any more.
  • He will try to take over the locker room.

Anyone who thought that Marbury was a bad addition by the Boston Celtics should just cut their losses now because this is going to turn out to be the best move they could have made. After not playing in a regular season game in over an entire calendar year, Marbury came in and showed flashes of how good he still is.

He shot four for six on from the floor for eight points and also dished out two assists. He hit his first shot attempt from the short corner on the left side of the floor like he has been doing it every day for the past year. His first touch was running a pick and roll with Leon Powe and watching Marbury make the pass, you knew that he still had his court vision.

Ladies and gentlemen, embrace Stephon Marbury as a member of the Boston Celtics. He will not be a cancer to this team. There’s just too much leadership in the locker room to allow that to happen. He will add some swagger to the bench and gives us some much needed insurance in case Rondo were to ever get hurt.

Will this hurt the progression of Gabe Pruitt? Most definitely, but when it comes to winning titles, we can’t worry about getting our young guns some run as much as getting wins not only now, but in the postseason.

Stephon Marbury… Welcome to the Boston Celtics!

Marbury Suiting Up, Pruitt Benched 2 Games

Posted by r1zzo23 on February 27, 2009

Post from February 27, 2009…

Quick post with some good news and then some bad news. Of course, everyone likes to hear the good news first…

The Celtics will be hosting the Pacers tonight at home (7:30PM EST) and Stephon Marbury is expected to suit up and play tonight. Now he hasn’t played in an NBA game in over a full calendar year, so look for Marbury to just get his feet wet tonight. But if Rondo were to get into foul trouble, Steph could be called on to do much more than we would expect in his first game. Eddie House is still there, but he’s still not a true point guard.

Then there’s Gabe Pruitt. He stands to lose the most playing time to the Marbury acquisition as anyone else in the backcourt, but with his arrest on Wednesday night the Celtics have suspended him for the next two games. That’s a fitting punishment for the crime and I bet Pruitt will regret it immensely. These next few games were probably his last chances to get some decent playing time, but now he’ll be in street clothes (that conform to the NBA dress code) for the next couple games.

By the way, Stephon Marbury will be wearing the #8 for the Boston Celtics. Last two Celtics to wear that number: Antoine Walker and Al Jefferson. Looks like he’s got quite the shoes to fill.
