Boston Celtics: The Big Green Machine

We'll be back and better than ever!

Celtics Would Love to Roll the Dyess

As we all may or may not know, the Detroit Pistons traded Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb to the Denver Nuggets for Allen Iverson. Immediately following the deal, there were rumors that McDyess would be bought out by the Nuggets and would return to the Pistons. Then a spokesman from the Nuggets came out and said that they would love for McDyess to play for them. Now it looks like he may be bought out after all. But the Celtics want to make this decision a little tougher for Antonio.

The Celtics reportedly have interest in signing Antonio McDyess should the Nuggets ultimately decide to buy out his contract.

Boston initially attempted to sign McDyess in 2004, but he opted to join Detroit.

Most expect McDyess to return to Detroit after the league’s mandatory 30-day waiting period. However, McDyess was reportedly upset by the trade.

Antonio McDyess would be an excellent addition to the Celtics roster. Patrick O’Bryant hasn’t earned any minutes thus far and Powe and Davis are a bit undersized to have playing center at any time. McDyess would be a great player to bring off the bench and to add to the 2nd unit.

Also, Boston and Detroit are almost destined to meet in the playoffs, so to snatch McDyess away from the Pistons and add him to our team would be a huge blow to the Pistons. We know that they are looking to the future for the summer of Lebron/Wade/Bosh/Melo, but they are still good enough to win today.

Personally, I think that McDyess will end up back in Detroit after the 30 days off, but we can definitely hope to see him suit up for the Celtics.

UPDATE: J.A. Adande just spoke on SportsCenter and says that McDyess’ agent is working on a buy-out and that TWENTY teams have called his agent about his services if the buy-out does in fact come to fruition.
