Minnesota Doubles Up, Takes Rubio & Flynn

Posted by r1zzo23 on June 25, 2009

With the #5 pick, the Timberwolves fill the void left at point guard by taking the most intriguing point guard prospect in the draft in Ricky Rubio. The 18 year old Spanish phenom is a YouTube sensation, but has many facets of his game that MUST improve in order for this pick to pan out. With Rubio running the point, the Timberwolves better be ready to run or they will not be playing to this kid’s strengths at all.

With the #6 pick, the Timberwolves go with yet another point guard and select Jonny Flynn. I love Flynn and think he can be the best point guard in this draft, but I figured Minnesota would grab Stephen Curry to sure up the back court. A Rubio-Flynn back court definitely means the Timberwolves are transitioning to an up-and-down style of play. I’ll assume that the Timberwolves have a shooting guard that they are eyeing with their two later first round picks.
